How long does it usually take to recover after a Boob Job?

The boob job or breast enlargement/augmentation is the option for women who wish to have larger breasts. Women can seek breast enlargement to streamline their figure or correct asymmetries between their two breasts. It is also very useful for women seeking breast reconstruction following breast cancer treatment or other types of loss of breast tissue. It is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures.

Breast augmentation procedure

Increase in the size of the breasts is achieved through breast implants. These are saline-filled or silicone-gel filled plastic bags that are placed behind breast tissue or chest muscles. The procedure begins with a general or local anaesthesia. The extent of anaesthesia depends on individual patients’ requirements. Incisions are then made to insert the implant. The position of the incision depends on where the implants would be inserted, which is also dependent on the wishes of the patient. Once implants are inserted, the incisions are sealed with sutures.

Recovery from breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is generally an outpatient procedure. This means that the patient is able to go home after the process. As soon as the patient recovers from the anaesthesia, she will be able to leave. The length of recovery from anaesthesia will depend on the type of anaesthesia used (general or local). Recovery from general anaesthesia is longer (within a few hours, usually, even though it may go on for days for some patients) and involves nausea, vomiting, shivering and disorientation.

Breast augmentation is considered a major surgical procedure and therefore complete rest is necessary. Recovery will depend on the healing of the sutures. If sutures are damaged by brisk movement, there may be delay in healing. If implants are placed underneath the muscles, then a longer resting period is warranted since the muscle will be cut during the intervention. Normally, a rest period of 1-2 weeks is sufficient. The following should be strictly observed during the resting period:

  1. No exertion (exercise and physical activity)
  2. Avoid wetting the sutures for at least 24 hours
  3. Wearing of support garments (special bras that hold the breasts in place while they heal, maintaining blood circulation and reducing swelling)
  4. Evacuation of excess fluid from the breasts using surgical drains
  5. Follow prescriptions for pain relievers and antibiotics

Although the resting period may be a week, soreness and pain from the breasts may be recurrent for months after the procedure.

Rhinoplasty – A Popular Procedure

What are the benefits of nose reshaping?

Many people are self-conscious or unhappy with about the shape, angle or size of their nose. This deformity could be due to genetic conditions or even as a result of an accident. Fortunately, this lack of self-esteem can be corrected through rhinoplasty – a quick nose reshaping procedure. This form of cosmetic surgery can benefit those who approach it for aesthetic reasons as well as those who are looking to correct breathing problems that may even have been affecting their sleeping patterns.

What does rhinoplasty entail?

Whether you choose to have rhinoplasty surgery to meet aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes, you can be assured that the procedure will dramatically improve your looks, enhance your overall appearance by adding softness and harmony to your face. Rhinoplasty can also substantially improve nasal breathing.

During the surgery, which takes roughly 1 hour (or up to 2, depending on the complexity of it), patients are under a general anaesthetic, meaning that on waking, they experience minimal discomfort. The surgeon works carefully to separate the skin of the nose from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage. This framework is then sculpted into the desired shape that was decided upon by the patient prior to surgery. The final step is redraping the skin over the new and improved framework.

One alternative method of nose reshaping is for the surgeon to perform the surgery from within the nose by making an incision inside the nostrils. For the more complicated cases, surgeons prefer to make a small incision across the vertical strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. Regardless of the form of nose rhinoplasty, the end result of the new shape is well received by patients.

Post-surgery, patients are required to wear a splint that assists the nose to maintain its new improved shape. For those who have had rhinoplasty performed due to breathing problems, nasal packs or sold plastic splints may be placed inside the nostrils to stabilise the dividing walls between the air passages as the nose heals. There is slight bruising and swelling, but this gradually disappears within a week or 2.

Breast Augmentation surgery- the most cost effective procedure to achieve the desired breasts size

A large number of women in today’s world suffer from low self esteem, just because of their small breast size! Truth be told, when it comes to your breasts, size really does matter. And for some women, the size that matters is “large.” Breast augmentation surgery is the easiest and most cost effective means to increase the size of breasts. Besides enhancing the breast size, the procedure also balances the overall body contour and proportions.  No doubt, it is the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the United States.

More and more women the world over are opting for breast augmentation to have fuller breasts that they can be proud of. American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reports that over 329,000 women in the United States opted for breast augmentation procedures in 2006.

Breast Augmentation surgery has several benefits, some of which are:

  • Enhancement of the size of your breasts.
  • Enhancement of the overall body contour, balance and proportions
  • Achieving an enhanced appearance, size, projection, etc., following pregnancy and/or weight loss.
  • Balancing the size of breasts when one is smaller than the other. Many women have one breast bigger than the other. This difference can be compensated by using two implants of different sizes.
  • It fills those breasts that appear to be ‘empty’, that is, with a lot of skin but little consistency, that some women have as a result of pregnancies or due to the aging process.

The breast augmentation surgery is performed by putting the ‘breast implants’ behind the mammary gland. A breast implant is a soft shell or a rubber sac that is filled with silicone gel or saline (salt-water). The feel of the implant is very natural and close to the feel of the normal breast tissue. They are available in several different sizes to accommodate different patient’s needs and surgeon’s preference.

Indicure, the premier medical tourism company of India, has served many patients from countries like USA, UK, Australia, Canada and other countries, looking for cost effective breast surgeries in India. The healthcare facilitation company provides the best services at very affordable prices.

Turning to Television for Cosmetic Surgery Information

Figures show that more and more people are turning to cosmetic surgery in an attempt to boost their confidence about the way they look.

While for some people this is a desperate attempt to turn back the hands of time and others will do anything to look like their favourite airbrushed celebrities, many make the sensible decision of trying to find out as much as they can about the procedures before they go to speak to a surgeon.

Now this task is easier than ever with the launch of a new television programme called ‘The Cosmetic Surgery Show’, co-hosted by Caroline Morahan and Dr Robery Rey, which for six episodes takes an in depth look at this trend in Ireland.

By involving three of the country’s largest cosmetic surgery practices, the show helps to bring first hand information to viewers interested in a range of procedures such as face lifts, breast augmentation, tummy tucks and liposuction. The show also looks at non-invasive treatments – such as dermal fillers – as it takes an all round view of what comes under the bracket of cosmetic and plastic surgery. Each episode also has a studio discussion about a particular procedure with results of public opinion votes.

While some people think of certain procedures in a derogatory way, the show looks to both sides of the argument with real life studies. One episode shows the struggle of a mother of three looking to lose weight from her thighs – something she found no amount of dieting or exercise could achieve – and after a successful liposuction operation she now uses sensible eating practices and exercise regimes to keep her new figure intact.

Another episode shows the confidence boost brought to the life of a 47-year-old mother who undergoes a face lift operation followed by wrinkle relaxing injections. These procedures have given this woman the confidence to go out in public without wearing makeup, something that she previously thought inconceivable.

As well as looking at the current trends in Ireland The Cosmetic Surgery Show looks to the United States - the pioneer of plastic surgery - to get an idea of the types of procedures being practised there that might soon be on their way to European countries.

While for some people cosmetic surgery will always be seen as an unnecessary operation, for those tempted by undergoing some form of surgery the more information available on the subject the more likely they are to make a well informed decision.

Are you a good candidate for breast lift plastic surgery?

A breast lift can be a very positive experience but it can also be a very painful and sometimes regretful experience. Knowing the reason why you want a breast lift is the most important aspect of the whole procedure. While a breast lift can change your appearance and improve self confidence it is unlikely to change your overall looks or help with work or love relationships.

To be a suitable candidate for a breast lift surgery procedure you are ideally a healthy and emotionally stable person. You must also be realistic about the results the surgery is going to produce. The  procedure works best with women with smaller breasts or sagging breasts. Although larger breast can be lifted the results can often be disappointing as the effect of the breast lift will not last nearly as long.

For many women breast lift plastic surgery follows pregnancy. The effects of lactation can leave stretch marked skin and a reduction in volume of  the breasts. Women planning to have more children are recommended to take their surgery after they have finished having children and completed breast feeding. While there are no risks that affect pregnancy, lactation and breast feeding will stretch the breast again ruining the affect of the procedure.

During the initial preoperative consult the surgeon you have selected will explain the procedure and discuss the outcomes and what to expect as for your surgery.

You must be sure to talk about your expectations with your doctor. Be aware the doctors ethical obligations will mean he or she should give you a honest account of what to expect. Surgeons are very experienced with managing their clients expectations. Listen to their advice and choose a doctor that that you agree with.

Your surgeons office will advise you of what you need to do to prepare for your procedure. A guide of what to eat and drink will be presented to you. As well as a outline of what to avoid leading up to the surgery.

Some surgeons will ask their patients to not sure medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (contained in asprin) as it may thins the blood and may increase bleeding during the surgery. However it is not life threatening.

You must make your surgeon aware of any illnesses (short term or long term) leading up to the  procedure. Any illnesses that occur three weeks prior to the operation should be reported to your surgeon.

After the surgery make arrangments for a family member or friend to drive your home from the hospital as you will be sore after the surgery.

When Diet and Exercise Don’t Work: Tummy Tucks and Liposuction

When girls transform into women, they do so largely because of increased levels of estrogen. Estrogen is partly responsible for the classic womanly hourglass shape with a smaller waist and larger hips. But sometimes women feel like they’ve got a little too much of a good thing.

Women aren’t the only ones who use diet and exercise to improve their looks. Men do it too, and sometimes they come up against their own insecurities about what diet and exercise can and cannot fix.

For example, a woman may work hard to get in shape and eat a healthy diet and still have excess fat deposits on her thighs. She may have three beautiful children, but she probably also has some stretched out skin over her abdomen that can only tighten up so much on its own.

The situation with men is similar. A man may have abs you could bounce a quarter off of, but somehow still have excess fat under his chin. Men, too can be faced with excess or “loose” skin around the abdomen after significant weight loss. And sometimes genetics play a role. A man may have the same deposits of fat along his upper torso that the other men in his family have, for example.

These are the cases when liposuction and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) can help.

Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat that diet and exercise fail to budge. Though the procedure has been around for decades, techniques have been improved and today the results are better than ever. There are, however, risks associated with liposuction, and they include uneven contouring, rippling of skin, nerve damage, pigmentation changes, infection, blood clots, heat injury from ultrasound (in ultrasound assisted technique), persistent pain, fat clots, and very rarely lung and heart complications.

Abdominoplasty is surgery to cope with excess skin and flab around the middle. Women and men have it, but more women do than men. The reason it is more common in women is that childbirth is a major cause of the kind of flab and loose skin that diet and exercise can only do so much with. The possible risks associated with tummy tuck surgery include persistent scars, infection, fluid accumulation, blood clots, numbness or changes in sensation of skin over the abdomen, skin discoloration, asymmetry, pain, nerve damage, and (very rarely) deep vein thrombosis, heart, or lung complications.

There are limits to what diet and exercise can do to change a person’s shape. While no one can deny that a good exercise program can work wonders for the human body’s appearance, there are aspects of appearance that are difficult or impossible to change. Otherwise healthy and fit people who for whatever reason have isolated stubborn fat deposits are the best candidates for liposuction and abdominoplasty. And anyone having either of these types of surgery should be aware that poor habits and weight gain can offset the positive results gained from plastic surgery.
